A statement by The Union of Gaza Strip Municipalities
No fuel was delivered to the municipalities of Gaza Strip since October 31st, 2023
The Union calls for immediate delivery of fuel supplies to stop the humanitarian disaster.
The Union of Gaza Strip Municipalities urgently appeals to the international community and organizations to deliver fuel to the municipalities of Gaza Strip, particularly to the Gaza and North governorates, which is crucial to ensure the provision of basic humanitarian services such as water supply, wastewater treatment, and waste management, and to avoid any coming humanitarian, health, and environmental crisis.
Addressing the harsh conditions and critical situation, the Union confirms that the municipalities of Gaza Strip, notably in the Gaza and North governorates, have not received any fuel supplies since the end of October, 2023.
The depletion of fuel has severely affected the provision of essential services, resulting in significant deficit in water supplies, solid waste
accumulation, and wastewater leakage onto streets and residential areas.
The Union urgently calls for the immediate supply of heavy and medium vehicles, as well as electric generators, in light of the deliberate destruction of the municipal vehicles and generators and other civic facilities.
Despite repeated calls to the international community within the last months, no actions have been made. The Union warns of the consequences of fuel shortages on the people’s lives, including potential risks of disease outbreaks.
