Gaza Municipality Warns of Looming Water Crisis Due to Lack of Repair Supplies

Gaza Municipality has issued an urgent warning regarding a potential large-scale water crisis in the city due to the lack of essential supplies required to repair and rehabilitate water facilities damaged during the ongoing Israeli aggression and genocidal war that began in October 2023.

The Municipality reports that the destruction has affected the majority of Gaza’s water infrastructure, leaving large portions of the population vulnerable to severe water shortages. Immediate needs include pipes, equipment for wells and reservoirs, as well as machinery and vehicles necessary for restoration works.

The estimated cost of urgent and emergency needs in the water sector for the year 2025 is approximately USD 16 million.

With temperatures rising and water demand increasing, Gaza Municipality is calling on international organizations, humanitarian agencies, and donors to act swiftly. Timely intervention is critical to averting a humanitarian disaster and ensuring access to water for hundreds of thousands of residents.
