Gaza Municipality warns of flooding in the northern and southern areas of the city with sewage water

The Gaza Municipality warns of the serious consequences stemming from the continued escalation of Israeli aggression in the Al-Manara area and around the Sheikh Radwan rainwater basin, located in the northwestern part of Gaza City. Intensified hostilities have prevented municipal crews from accessing and operating critical infrastructure due to severe security threats in the area.

The Municipality confirms that its inability to access and operate Wastewater Pumping Station No. 5  "Al-Bakkara Station"  and Station 7B east of Al-Zaytoun neighborhood in the southern part of the city, and to operate them, may lead to sewage overflow and the flooding of homes in the area if the Israeli occupation continues its aggression and escalation there..

Additionally, failure to operate the Sheikh Radwan Basin drainage system could lead to a dangerous rise in water levels and potential overflow, particularly with continued wastewater inflow or any rainfall. This poses a significant threat to public health and the environment in the affected area and across the city.

The Gaza Municipality urgently calls on international organizations to intervene immediately to ensure safe access for municipal crews and to provide the necessary emergency resources. Such support is critical to preventing further deterioration and mitigating a growing humanitarian, health, and environmental crisis in Gaza City.
