Gaza Municipality Issues Emergency Needs for 2025, Valued at Approximately $141 Million and Covering Multiple Sectors

Gaza Municipality has released its Emergency Needs Document for 2025, aimed at addressing the city's urgent requirements and ensuring the continued operation of essential municipal services and facilities that have been severely damaged or destroyed due to the ongoing aggression and genocidal war waged by the Israeli occupation since October 2023.

The document outlines critical and immediate humanitarian needs across various service sectors, with the goal of maintaining a minimum level of basic services throughout the year, strengthening the resilience of residents, and supporting early recovery efforts in the aftermath of the aggression.

The identified needs span several key sectors, most notably: water, wastewater, and stormwater management; health and environmental services; road infrastructure; the municipality’s financial requirements for the current year; administrative buildings and facilities; the operational environment; heavy machinery and equipment; fuel and lubricants; power generators and alternative energy sources; public markets; public parks and the coastal seafront; as well as psychosocial support, and programs for children and women.

Municipal infrastructure and facilities in Gaza have suffered unprecedented destruction due to the genocidal war. Since the onset of the aggression, the occupation has destroyed approximately 810 kilometers of roads, 175,000 meters of sewage networks, 8 wastewater pumping stations, 115,000 meters of water pipelines, and 63 water wells.

Additional damage includes the accumulation of approximately 260,000 tons of solid waste, the uprooting of 63,000 trees, the destruction of 8 public parks, 134 municipal vehicles of various sizes, 22 municipal buildings, 8 markets, 5 cultural centers, 165 historical buildings, as well as the destruction of the Central Archive and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Center. Most of the city’s public lighting infrastructure has also been destroyed.

Gaza Municipality urgently calls on the international community, all international organizations, and relevant institutions to intervene and assist in providing emergency needs to alleviate the escalating humanitarian and public health crisis caused by the ongoing aggression.
