A Statement by MoGaza

Damaging Water Resources

The deliberate targeting of water resources has caused a major thirst crisis.

The Municipality of Gaza (MoGaza) announced that the Israeli forces destroyed about 40 wells and 9 water tanks since the beginning of the, and 42,000 linear meters of water networks of various diameters.

The water wells destroyed included minor and central wells, including the Safa wells in the northeast of the city, which supply the city with about 20% of daily needs, in addition to other wells in various areas of the city.

The occupation's cutting of water supplies and the depletion of fuel necessary to operate the water wells have caused a major thirst crisis in the city. Among these sources is the "Mekkorot" Israeli Water Company, which used to supply the city with about 25% of the water needs, where about 60% of the needs have been supplied from the city water wells, amounted to about 80 wells before the aggression. This is in addition to the destruction of the water desalination plant in the north of the city, which used to supply about 10% of the people’s daily needs.

Thus, MoGaza calls on the international and human rights organizations to urgently intervene and save the human lives in Gaza.
