Gaza Faces a Severe Water Crisis
Urgent Call for Pipes and Equipment to Avert Catastrophe

Gaza City is experiencing a severe water crisis that threatens the lives of hundreds of thousands of residents, with 60% of the city’s areas still without water for weeks.

Despite the ongoing efforts by the Gaza Municipality, a severe shortage of pipes and essential equipment for repairing water networks is hindering maintenance work and exacerbating the suffering of citizens.

With the ceasefire now in effect, the municipality has begun field visits to assess urgent needs and determine the necessary repairs for pipelines, networks, and wells. This will enable maintenance teams to carry out essential repairs as quickly as possible due to the critical need to restore water access to residents.

The municipality urgently appeals to the international community and humanitarian organizations for immediate intervention to provide the necessary pipes and equipment to repair the damaged water networks.

It further highlights that the ongoing Israeli blockade on the entry of these essential materials is worsening the crisis and depriving residents of their right to clean water.

The municipality stresses that securing pipes and equipment is a top priority to save the city from this acute water crisis. It calls for a coordinated international response to mobilize humanitarian efforts to support residents and ensure access to life-sustaining water supplies.

Gaza Municipality also emphasizes that resolving the water crisis requires a comprehensive and long-term solution to ensure sustainable water access for all residents. It urges the international community to support water infrastructure development in Gaza, including the construction of desalination plants and upgrading essential infrastructure so that citizens can secure their basic right to clean water.
