Gaza Municipality Urges Swift Provision of Machinery to Clear Streets

Gaza Municipality: Street Clearance Faces Major Challenges Due to Equipment Shortage

The process of reopening streets and roads in Gaza City, which were blocked due to rubble from bombed buildings and Israeli bulldozing operations, is facing severe difficulties. This is due to the destruction of most municipal machinery and the unavailability of specialized road-clearing equipment.

The municipality confirmed that most roads are difficult to clear because of the massive accumulation of debris and the lack of essential equipment such as bulldozers, trucks for debris removal, excavators, and road-clearing machinery.

It further stated that the Israeli occupation has destroyed approximately 80% of the municipality’s equipment, leaving no heavy machinery available for road clearance. The municipality is currently relying on the private sector, which is also suffering from a significant shortage of machinery and lacks the necessary equipment for debris removal, road clearing, and leveling.

Gaza Municipality urgently calls on all international and local organizations to intervene immediately, help safeguard humanitarian life in the city, and provide the necessary machinery to reopen streets. This would facilitate movement within the city and between its northern and southern areas.

It is worth noting that during its aggression and acts of genocide, the Israeli occupation deliberately destroyed and bulldozed most of the city's streets and roads, creating a catastrophic situation due to the massive accumulation of debris and waste.
