ألحقت قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي أضراراً جسيمة ببركة تجميع مياه الأمطار في حي الشيخ رضوان، خلال توغلها في المنطقة أثناء حرب الإبادة، وحذّرت بلدية غزة من أن عدم تفريغ البركة من المياه المتجمعة بداخلها حالياً قد يؤدي إلى مخاطر كبيرة في ظل اقتراب موسم تساقط الأمطار.
وأوضحت البلدية أن ارتفاع منسوب المياه في البركة ناجم عن تسرب مياه الصرف الصحي إليها، نتيجة تدمير منظومة الصرف الصحي في مناطق مختلفة من المدينة، بما في ذلك محطات ضخ مياه الصرف الصحي والخطوط الناقلة إلى محطة المعالجة في حي الشيخ عجلين.
كما بيّنت البلدية أن خط تصريف البركة الذي يربطها بالبحر قد تعرّض لأضرار بالغة، فيما تضررت مضخات تفريغ بركة الشيخ رضوان بشكل كبير، إضافةً إلى مولدات الكهرباء المشغّلة لها، ما تسبب بتوقف عملية التصريف بشكل كامل، الأمر الذي ينذر بارتفاع إضافي في منسوب المياه مع بدء موسم تساقط الأمطار. كما أن تدمير الاحتلال لسور البركة يشكّل خطراً مباشراً على حياة الأطفال في المنطقة المحيطة.
وأدى تجمع مياه الصرف الصحي المتدفقة إلى البركة إلى تفاقم الكارثة الصحية والبيئية في المنطقة، وانتشار الحشرات الضارة والروائح الكريهة، فضلاً عن خطورة تسرّب هذه المياه إلى الخزان الجوفي وتلويثه نتيجة استمرار تدفقها إلى البركة.
وتناشد بلدية غزة المجتمع الدولي والمنظمات الإنسانية سرعة التدخل والمساعدة في إعادة تشغيل منظومة الصرف الصحي ومعالجة المياه بشكلٍ سليم من خلال ضخّها إلى محطات المعالجة ووقف تدفّقها إلى برك تجميع مياه الأمطار، إلى جانب دعم جهود إعادة إعمار وصيانة محطات الصرف الصحي والخطوط الناقلة المتضرّرة بفعل العدوان، وتوفير الاحتياجات اللازمة من مواسير ومولدات ومضخّات لإصلاح خط تصريف البركة ومرافقها، درءاً لمخاطر طفحها مع اقتراب موسم تساقط الأمطار.

Gaza Municipality: The Occupation Causes Severe Damage to Al-Sheikh Radwan Stormwater Basin and Its Facilities
The Israeli occupation forces have caused extensive damage to the stormwater collection basin in Al-Sheikh Radwan neighborhood during their incursion into the area amid the genocidal war. Gaza Municipality warned that the failure to drain the basin of the accumulated water could pose serious risks as the rainy season approaches.
The Municipality explained that the rising water level in the basin resulted from the leakage of wastewater into it due to the destruction of the city’s wastewater system in various areas, including pumping stations and transmission lines leading to the main treatment plant in Sheikh Ajleen.
It further noted that the drainage line connecting the basin to the sea sustained severe damage, while the discharge pumps at Al-Sheikh Radwan Basin were also heavily damaged, along with the electric generators operating them. This has led to a complete halt in the drainage process, raising the risk of a further increase in water levels as the rainy season begins. Moreover, the destruction of the basin’s perimeter wall by the occupation poses a direct threat to the safety of children in the surrounding area.
The accumulation of wastewater in the basin has exacerbated the environmental and health crisis in the area, causing the spread of harmful insects and foul odors and posing a risk of groundwater contamination due to continuous seepage.
Gaza Municipality urgently calls upon the international community and humanitarian organizations to act swiftly and support efforts to restore and operate the city’s wastewater system by properly treating and pumping sewage to the main treatment plants and halting its flow into stormwater basins. The Municipality also urges assistance in reconstructing and maintaining the damaged pumping stations and transmission lines, and in providing the necessary resources including pipes, generators, and pumps to repair the basin’s drainage line and facilities, in order to prevent the risk of overflow with the onset of the rainy season.
